VOTE Tuesday, April 3Election Day is Tuesday! Time to Get out the Vote!
To volunteer, for a yard sign, or to drop lit, contact, m.floresforschoolboard@gmail.comThank you for your interest in visiting the website for my candidacy for the Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education Seat 2. I’d like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Michael A. Flores and I grew up on Madison’s East Side where I graduated from East High School. I was fortunate enough to attend East when Milton McPike was principal, a strong leader that many adults and students alike respected and looked up to. Mr. McPike expected his students to live up to a high standard, and I also have high expectations for my own children as well as the other students in the Madison school district. With positive and inspiring role models like Mr. McPike, my former wrestling coach Mr. Bernie Kane, and many others I've encountered throughout my educational experience, I believe that we can create an environment that educates, nurtures and continually pushes the limits of expectation for all students regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual identity or socioeconomic status. Growing up poor, there were many times that I attended school with an empty belly, and it was hard to focus on academics even though I wanted to do my best. I can empathize intimately with issues that many kids in our city face: poverty, poorly educated parents, low educational expectations and being disregarded because you are in a minority group or culture. Despite this, for me, school was a place to escape my home life and a place of nurturing and growth, and the positive influences I found there made me believe that I could do anything I put my mind to.
Now I am running for the MMSD Board of Education as a Madison resident and parent of three MMSD students because I would like to help propel not only the disadvantaged, but all of our city’s kids to their best and brightest future in a competitive global economy, and strengthen the Madison Metropolitan School District, and city, through the support of our teachers and currently successful programs, and new initiatives that may help bridge the achievement gap.
I appreciate your support and invite your input as Madison residents, taxpayers, educators and parents. -Michael Can you help Michael's campaign with an online donation? Authorized and paid for by Flores for School Board. Cory Roberts, Treasurer. |
